Tickets on sale for March 2 Aldo Leopold BanquetJanuary 26, 2012
The Environmental Adventure Center, in conjunction with the UW-Eau Claire Confluence Center, Watershed Institute, Student Rod and Gun Club and the Wisconsin Youth Success Program will present the banquet. Organizers say the event will introduce students and community members to the Aldo Leopold land ethic and to pass the conservation torch to the next generation
The UW-Eau Claire Foundation recently received a 160-acre land donation from the James Leary family near the confluence of the Chippewa and Flambeau rivers. The Foundation also recently purchased the 112-acre St. Bede Monastery property on the outskirts of Eau Claire.
"In the spirit of Aldo Leopold, both these additions to the university offer immense program possibilities for students, faculty and the Eau Claire community," said Dan Langlois, event coordinator for the Aldo Leopold Banquet.
The event will feature comments by Kenny Salwey, author and star of the Emmy-award winning film "Mississippi: Tales of the Last River Rat." Other speakers will include a James Leary family member and Kimera Way, executive director of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation. Renowned author and outdoorsman John Hildebrand, professor emeritus of English, will serve as the program's emcee.
Special musical selections will be provided by the student staff at the Environmental Adventure Center.
The menu will includes barbequed chicken, venison meatloaf donated by Gunderson Foods of Mondovi, vegetarian options, and pies donated by Norske Nook and the Student Rod and Gun Club.
The cost is $20 per person for community members and UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff, and $15 for students. Seating is limited and expected to sell out. Advance registration is required.
