Svacina holds a doctorate in second language acquisition (linguistics) and teacher education and a Master of Arts in English as a second language from the University of Illinois. Her bachelor’s degree is in French and German from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
One of my favorite experiences from my undergraduate career was when I studied abroad in Valladolid, Spain during my spring semester, in 2011. It was such an enriching experience that my passion for travelling and going on unforgettable adventures started to grow.

On March 29th, Drs. Kaishan Kong and Jessica Sertling Miller (professors of Chinese and French respectively) took their students of Chinese 102, 202 and French 201, 202, 430 to teach language and culture at Putnam Heights Elementary as part of the school's international week during which classes focus on world-themed projects.
The American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) recently designated the UW-Eau Claire French program as an Exemplary Program with Honors, underlining once again the quality of the language programs available to our students (the German program was designated as a Center of Excellence by the American Association of Teachers of German in 2015).
Johannah Erffmeyer, a third year student from Eau Claire, WI, has been named the 2017 College of Business Emerging Leader. She is double majoring in information systems and German. The Emerging Leader award is presented to a current business student who has shown early leadership and potential for success. Students were nominated for the award by the faculty and staff members.
For the 34th time, a Blugold has been awarded the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship, this time for a master's program. Anneli Williams, a double major in German and geography, will be studying linguistics in Marburg, Germany.
Cora Cornett studied abroad for two semesters, one in Spain and the other in Puerto Rico. During the course of those adventures she gained a wealth of experience, learned to be self-reliant and adaptable, and made friends for life.

Beginning March 30, UW-Eau Claire foreign language education majors and minors will teach free exploratory language classes in beginning French (grades 1-2) and beginning Spanish (grades 1-5) to area children.
