Minutes - April 21, 2008

Hello NBA Members!

Here are some notes from the meeting tonight.

Our guest speakers were the band Meridene. They shared some insight on playing both classical and popular music as well as how formal music education has helped them. Try to catch their upcoming performance at Englishfest – May 1st at 12pm by the clock tower.

Some upcoming NBA events:

- Receptions – There is a sign up on the board for the band concerts the next two weekends. Please consider volunteering!

- UMN Carmina Burana featuring the choirs and wind ensemble. The concert is May 2nd at 7:30- no admission charge. Our estimated departure time is 4:30, with a stop in Hudson for dinner. Contact me for information on rides – a ride board will be set up soon by the NBA board.

- May 8th – End of semester social at Dr. Heidel’s house! Details will be confirmed soon.

We heard a bit from most of the candidates for next year’s executive board. You’ll be getting an email with their statements soon. Voting will take place tomorrow (Tuesday) until Friday around 3pm. Ballots will be on the board and should be returned to Dr. Heidel. Make sure you read about the candidates and vote!

A few updates on other NBA business: Some preparation has taken place to get started with the recordings of WSMA solos. Look for information on that in the fall.

The student chapter commissioning project has changed from one large piece to two shorter works. The first will be an overture 5-8mins in length and the second will be for solo voice and wind band. Our chapter is leading in financing this project – if you have any ideas for new fundraisers, please contact the exec board.

More information will be coming on the upcoming events. Remember to sign up for receptions and vote! Have a wonderful evening!
