Minutes - February 1, 2007 - Speaker: Music Camp Panel
Hi Everyone!
Here are the meeting minutes from Thursday. If you know anyone that would like some of the information for summer camps, please forward this!
First of all, if you are already a paid member, our registration never went through, as you may remember. So, since the cost of registration has gone down $15, you have the option to either donate your extra $15 to NBA or get a check back...you can do any combination. If you didn't tell Jim what you want to do with your money at the meeting, please email Brian Handeland and he will take care of it for you!
Next, there has been a change in the schedule. On April 12th we will be having a social at Mike's and the last meeting in March will be a reading band. Keep that in mind. We will also be having a progressive dinner at some point and we are looking into another trip to see a concert. Keep those things in mind.
And now for the meeting. We had several students come in and talk about their experiences working at different summer camps!
First of all, Kira talked about Northland Youth Music Program in Superior, WI. It runs for 4 weeks in the summer. If you have questions, check out www.nymp.net or contact Kira Zeman.
Next, Anne Bitney talked about working at the Shell Lake Arts Center. It is a 9 week commitment starting in early June. It looks like there will be two male and two female openings. Applications should be out very soon. If you have any questions, check out www.shelllakeartscenter.org or talk to Anne Bitney.
Liz Soules also shared her experiences at DeLong's Summer Band Program. There are summer programs at South, Northstar, and Altoona too. It runs for six weeks M-Th from about 730a-3p. If you have any questions about working at summer band, feel free to ask Liz Soules.
Finally, Tim talked about his experiences at the International Music Camp in North Dakota (near the Manitoba border). It starts in the beginning of June and goes through the beginning of August. A perk for this camp is flexibility in weeks. If you have questions check out www.internationalmusiccamp.com or talk to Tim Baumann.
There are other opportunities out there. Check out Bands of America at www.boa.org. I believe Michelle Kochan has done this before. Also, check out www.bluelake.org for the Blue Lake Music Camp. Interlochen is also a great camp to look into. I know Emily Weber has worked at Interlochen Music Camp in the past. The website is www.interlochen.org/camp/.
If you have any more questions feel free to contact me, or any of the people above!
Happy job hunting!
