Performance Facilities

Completed in 1970 and dedicated to UW-Eau Claire Chancellor, Leonard Haas, and his wife Dorellen, the Haas Fine Arts Center serves as home for the Department of Music and Theatre Arts as well as the Department of Art. A large central lobby is the primary pre-concert and pre-theatre gathering place and provides access to the Center's three performance venues --Gantner Concert Hall, Phillips Recital Hall, and Riverside Theatre. All music teaching facilities are located within the Haas Fine Arts Center and include 6 classrooms, two comprehensive rehearsal rooms (one each for instrumental and choral ensembles), a state-of-the-art audio recording facility, two electronic piano laboratories, 36 practice rooms, the Ross Hastings Music Library, and the Music Technology Center.

	Two classrooms are used exclusively for theatre arts courses and rehearsals. The department's administrative office is located adjacent to the Haas Fine Arts Center lobby and all music and theatre arts faculty have their offices and teaching studios in the building. Additional instructional space for theatre arts students is located in the Kjer Theatre complex in Brewer Hall. The music therapy program has a laboratory and classrooms in the Department of Allied Health Professions' facility in the Human Sciences and Services Building.

The Music Technology Center The Music Technology Center was completed in 1996. Based exclusively on the Macintosh Power PC platform, the Center is a state-of-the-art computer laboratory designed to enhance instruction in music theory, orchestration, music literature, vocal diction, and music education. The Center also provides powerful creative tools for composers, arrangers, and multi-media artists. The facility contains 15 workstations, each with MIDI keyboard. Two workstations are designed for composers and include digital recording and editing tools.

Performance Facilities The Department of Music and Theatre Arts has four performance facilities for its exclusive use--Gantner Concert Hall, Phillips Recital Hall, Riverside Theatre, and Kjer Theatre.

Gantner Concert Hall The Robert Gantner Concert Hall is a 600-seat facility used for ensemble concerts, solo recitals, dance, opera, and musical theatre. Located on stage are two matching Steinway concert grand pianos and a Bösendorfer Imperial grand piano. A 46 rank Aeolian Skinner pipe organ also is located in Gantner Concert Hall.



	Phillips Recital Hall The 200-seat L.E. Phillips Recital Hall is an ideal space for chamber music and solo performances. This facility has a small, open stage and is the primary venue for most of the department's student degree recitals.

Riverside Theatre Riverside Theatre is a 200-seat thrust stage facility. This intimate theatre is used for both studio and mainstage theatrical productions. A large workshop area, makeup facility, and green room are part of the Riverside Theatre complex.



	Kjer Theatre The Earl S. Kjer Theatre is the only department performance facility not located in the Haas Fine Arts Center. The 400-seat proscenium stage theatre is used for mainstage plays and dance productions.
