Cane Mutiny Bassoon Ensemble

Cane Mutiny, UW-Eau Claire’s Bassoon Ensemble, was founded in the fall of 2000. The group's name is a play on words that refers not only to Herman Wouk's famous novel, The Caine Mutiny, but also to bassoon reed cane and the mutinous relationship a bassoonist often feels toward his reed. Cane Mutiny performs original and transcribed pieces for bassoons, and occasionally invites other instrumentalists to join them in concert. In 2001 Cane Mutiny was invited to perform at the Wisconsin Music Educators Association where they presented a superb concert. The ensemble, known for its quality musicianship, performs frequently on campus and at various venues across Wisconsin, including weddings, community arts programs, and high schools. In 2003 Cane Mutiny presented a joint concert with bassoon students from the University of Iowa that featured small chamber works and a massed band of 18 bassoonists on stage! Performers in Cane Mutiny improve their performance and ensemble skills, poise, knowledge of the bassoon and its literature, and have a lot of fun.
