The BMT degree prepares students for careers in music therapy, a professional discipline in which the scientific application of the art of music is used in the treatment of and rehabilitation of persons suffering from a wide variety of diseases and disabilities in the areas of mental, physical, emotional, and social functioning. Applicants planning to major in music therapy must audition for admission to the BMT program through the Department of Music and Theatre Arts. Applicants may audition on any instrument or voice, although a strong keyboard background is recommended for BMT students.
Students must pass a music audition through the Department of Music and Theatre Arts and complete accreditation requirements through music courses and programs, including concert and recital attendance. Please contact Lee Anna Rasar for information about Music Therapy courses and advising and more information on this field.
