COURSE TITLE: Advanced Clinical Practice II
COURSE CREDIT: 5 credits (Theory 2 cr, Practicum 3 cr)
Prerequisite Course: ADTN/FMHN 742
PLACEMENT IN CURRICULUM: Second function role preparation course for students selecting the advanced clinical practice option.
CATALOG DESCRIPTION: This course focuses on advanced clinical decision making with emphasis on acute and chronic health deviations in individuals and families. Clinical decision making skills are expanded to facilitate advanced clinical practice nursing and collaborative practice across the lifespan. Practicum experience will occur across settings.

1. Analyze health assessment information regarding acute and chronic health deviations in individual and families across the lifespan.
2. Establish measurable client outcomes and analyze implemented plans of care to determine the need for continuation, modification, or cessation of the prescribed care plan.
3. Evaluate intervention studies for their applicability in assisting individuals or families to maintain or restore their optimal level of functioning.
4. Incorporate ethical and legal principles within advanced nursing care of individuals and families.
5. Analyze the factors which affect the role of nurses in advanced clinical practice in providing care of individuals and families.
6. Collaborate with the client, family and other health care professionals in the management of care.

Laboratory, diagnostic, and pharmacology reference texts from ADTN 712 will be used as clinical references.
Practicum Experiences are required for all students. The practicum experience will focus on acute and chronic health deviations in a variety of settings. A minimum of 225 hours are required. Each student will maintain a clinical journal to be submitted at least every other week. Satisfactory clinical performance is a course requirement. Unsatisfactory clinical performance will result in course failure.

Clinical Seminars: One hour weekly seminars will be held.
Clinical Assignment 1: Applied Conceptual Framework Clinical Assignment. The purpose of this assignment is to apply a conceptual holistic nursing approach to a clinical case. The student will choose a clinical write up on a client with a complex acute health deviation or a chronic health deviation and develop an intervention plan based on a conceptual framework, application to clinical situation must be evident. Recommended length: 4-6 pages.
