Thanks, Everyone!
Thanks for a great year, everyone! As many of you know, our chapter was awarded this year for its membership growth! Furthermore, our members remained very active throughout the entire school year! It was great to see the turn out for the Organizations' Picnic in September - I think this really boosted active involvement in the Music Organizations this year! Thanks to our Vice-President, Amy McCoy, we had some really wonderful speakers throughout the year, including Melvin Pontious, Corrine Gransee, Bill Preston-Simon, Carrie Loney, Toni Poll-Sorenson, Linda Johnson, and some of our own student teachers! The WMEA Conference in October was an informational and important experience for many of our members! A big thanks goes out to our Co-Treasurer, Tim Baumann, for doing a lot of the behind-the-scenes work with our registration forms and dues! Our Christmas Tree Hunt was a success this year, thanks to the number of members from CMENC and Phi Mu Alpha that came to help! Our tree standing and decorating was tedious (especially when we realized that the tree was about five feet to tall for the Haas Fine Arts Lobby!), but was enjoyed by all of the Lobby Concert-goers in December!! Students, faculty, and community members were all visited by the holiday spirit, not to mention Santa Claus, thanks to our Secretary and Lobby Concert Organizer, Ashley Singer! And, through selling our ornaments, we made money that went towards a song being commissioned in Branden Atherton's memory.
The second semester did not slow down for our chapter! In between general and executive board meetings, we sent some student to the Mini-Conference in Oshkosh, WI, including our student representative Amy Mc Coy! March delivered several opportunities to our Chapter, including a trip to Eleva-Strum Middle and High School and Strum Elementary School to celebrate Music In Our Schools Month! We also sponsored a High School Shadow Day for potential music students from surrounding high schools to come shadow a college student, majoring in music, for a day! Although a snow day attacked our Shadow Day, our persistent Advocate, Anne Bitney, saved Shadow Day by planning a make-up day in April for students who could not make it to the first one! Our chapter's fundraising efforts were enormous this spring! Headed up by our Co-Treasurer, Courtney Gansmann, our members pitched in to help out behind the counters and grills during our food booths at Jazzfest and State Solo/Ensemble! It was a very successful year for our members!
I would like to thank everyone in the chapter - all 52 members from this academic year - for a wonderful journey! Thanks for all your time, energy, and effort toward our chapter and toward the profession of music education!
Sincerely,
Jill Redding
2005-2006 President
