2005-2006 - Spring Semester

5/17/2006 - Wednesday

Massive Update

Jill Redding has an end of the year message for all the CMENC members, and even those interested in joining may want to take a look at it to get an idea of what we're all about.

This home page was changed slightly in the welcome section, the constitution has been revised following the recent amendments, and the MIOSM page has been updated slightly.

Finally, a photo album has been created! There isn't much there now, but more will hopefully be added in the future. The newest addition includes pictures from the Christmas tree and lobby concert at the end of the fall semester.

Have a great summer everyone!

5/9/2006 - Tuesday

Minutes

Minutes have been updated from the student teacher panel meeting on Monday. Updates will probably not be very common from this point until the beginning of the next semester, with the exception of possibly an updated calendar.

For those in the National Band Association, my goal is to hopefully get a website developed over the summer for that organization as well. When it is online, a link will be posted. With that in mind, if any other music organizations on campus have a website that they would like a link for, please e-mail me the website address and organization name.

Hope everyone has a great summer, and good luck on finals/juries!

-Jim

Message from Jill Redding

Hello everyone!

We're winding down!  Please take a look at a couple of very important announcements:

1 - Courtney is posting the schedule for the SOLO/ENSEMBLE food booth... Please please please sign up for this!  We really need your help!  Generally Solo/Ensemble brings us more business than does Jazzfest!  I know you all have to work for the department, but if you could spare at least one more hour of your time on Sat, that would be greatly appreciated!  Plus, you'll get a free meal!

2 - The officers and I are going to make some small revisions to the Chapter Constitution, which is a little outdated (some wording, etc.).  In order to do this, we need a majority vote of 2/3 of the chapter for EACH ammendment.  Instead of boring you with all the details, we are proposing to change the constitution to read "This constitution may be ammended by a unanimous vote of the Executive Council (or the officers)."  If this is passed, then the officers can go ahead and revise anything that might need to be revised, without having to worry about getting 2/3 of the chapter to vote.

If you are ok with this, please respond with a "yes." If not, please respond with a "no."

Thanks for your help!

Jill Redding, CMENC President

March 3rd, Important Info! - Message from Jill Redding

Hey everyone,
Sorry to bother you all! If you are planning on going to Eleva/Strum for MIOSM on March 3rd, please read Anne's e-mail carefully!

Also, If you are going to be missing class on Friday, March 3rd, PLEASE NOTIFY YOUR INSTRUCTORS of your absence ASAP!!... We will not be giving the music faculty these field trip forms... it is your job to do this in a prompt fashion! Each year, professors get mad at us and we want to keep them happy with our organization! Most of them won't have a problem, if you give them plenty of warning!

Also, people singing in the choir, PLEASE come to rehearsal next Monday (as Anne said below) and if you have the John Rutter "Down By The Riverside," please bring it! If you cannot make this rehearsal, but plan on singing with us on the 3rd, please e-mail me back and let me know so we can get the count correct!

Thanks everyone! This will be fun!

Jill Redding, CMENC President

If a turtle has no shell, is he homeless or naked? - Message from Anne Bitney

Hello everybody!

It's me, Anne, your lovely Advocate for this year! Since Music In Our Schools Month is my department, I thought I'd clue you in on everything that's going on thus far for Music In Our Schools month.

On March 3rd, we'll be going to the school district of Eleva-Strum to give presentations to their music students in grades K-2, middle school, and high school. The theme of Music In Our Schools month this year is the National Anthem project, so we'll be teaching a folk song or two to the elementary students as well as giving instrument/vocal demonstrations, and teaching the middle/senior high students the National Anthem, along with the meaning behind it (with demonstrations).

For Friday, March 3rd, the agenda is as follows:

8:00 am: Chapter meets in HFA circle
8:45am: UW- Eau Claire CMENC chapter arrives at Eleva-Strum
9:00-11:05am : Kindergarten/First Grade/Second Grade
11:05am-1:30pm: Lunch in E-S cafeteria
1:34-2:20pm: MS Band and Choir
2:22-3:12pm: HS Band/Choir

If you'd like to go, but didn't put your name on the field trip form, you're more than welcome to come! Just be aware that your name won't go on the field trip form, so your absence won't be excused. For those of you going, there's a ride list posted on the CMENC bulletin board. If you can drive, please put your name down, along with your phone number and/or email address so that the rest of the membership can contact you for a ride.

We'll be eating lunch in the cafeteria, but if you'd not like to eat Garlic Cheesy Bread (that's on the menu for that day), make sure to bring a bag lunch. If you do want to eat in the cafeteria, the cost has been estimated to be about 3 dollars.

Rehearsal is going to be next Monday, February 27th, at 4:00 pm. Please make sure to be there! I know orchestra is at that time, so Allison Bulger is organizing the strings (talk to her if you're a string person). If you're an instrumentalist in orchestra, or a vocalist that can't make it, please talk to either me (instrumentalists) or Jill Redding(vocalists).

Whew! Ok, you're done reading now. If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to send them my way!

Have a great night!

CMENC Shirts - Message from Ashley Singer

Hi Everyone!

We've extended the deadline for buying a CMENC shirt! If you are interested in purchasing one please turn in your money in the office in the CMENC mailbox ($19: checks payable to UWEC).  It'll be a good investment, and there will be numerous opportunities to wear your T-shirt during times when our chapter will be very visible. Please consider buying a shirt. Let me or any of the officers know if you have any questions.

Ashley Singer, CMENC Secretary

CMENC Minutes

CMENC minutes were updated from this past Monday's meeting. Happy Valentine's Day folks!

Message from Jill Redding

Hey Everyone!

I know you are all very very busy, but please take a minute to read through this and become more involved with CMENC!

Thanks to all of you for your hard work this year! Let's keep it up! We have a busy month ahead!

- The ride list for Eleva/Strum on Friday, March 3rd will be going up on the CMENC board by the choir room. Make sure you sign up if you need or can give rides! This will especially help out people who want to come late or leave early because of other classes! We need to be there by 8:45, so the first trip will leave at 8:15 from HFA circle. We should be back by 3:30/4ish.

- Rehearsal for Eleva/Strum participants is on Monday, Feb. 27th – everyone (singers and instrumentalists) will meet in HFA 160 at 4:00 to talk details and rehearse Anthem. Then we will split – instrumentalists to Gantner – to rehearse other stuff. PLEASE COME IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON GOING TO ELEVA/STRUM!

- CMENC Mini-Conference – Saturday, Feb. 25th in Oshkosh, WI – get your registration and $10 postmarked by this Friday, Feb. 17th!

- T-shirt sign-up! We are ordering NICE POLO SHIRTS with embroidery on them for whenever we do group events, conventions, MIOSM, food booth, etc! These will look great, I promise!

1. Check the CMENC board for more information about the shirt, to VOTE for a color and to sign-up for one! We need more people to sign-up for these!
2. $19.00 to Courtney by Monday, Feb. 20th (can put in mailbox in music office) – Checks made out to UWEC (then we will send a lump sum in) WE WILL NOT ORDER A T-SHIRT FOR YOU UNLESS YOU HAVE PAID!

Other things:

From Tim Baumann:
I was just browsing through this and I saw an opportunity for collegiate volunteers to get in to the National Conference in Salt Lake City for free. Granted, the getting there is the expensive part, not the registration, but I figured it might be a good thing if some people wanted to go. Deadline is Mar. 6.

I hope that all is well with the chapter. Please send my regards.

- STUDENT OPPORTUNITY: COLLEGIATE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED AT 2006 NATIONAL CONFERENCE – Become a collegiate worker and receive FREE registration. Deadline to apply is March 6, 2006. For more information or
to download a Collegiate Worker Request Form, visit http://www.menc.org/connect/conf/natl06/06CollWorkerRequestForm.pdf

- Courtney Doyel is looking to put a team together for the Shamrock Shuffle... are we interested in doing this as a chapter? She says we don't need very many people... please let me know if you are interested!

That's it for now! Thanks everyone!

Message from Jill Redding (3p.m.) - MIOSM in Eleva/Strum

Hey everyone,

Are we ready to get another semester going?  It's going to be a busy one!

I'm sending you this e-mail to tell you that you have until tomorrow to respond to this e-mail if you want to add your name on the field trip list for the March 3rd trip to Eleva/Strum for Music In Our Schools, where we will be demonstrating instruments, voice, and teaching many grade levels of students.

Please e-mail me back by tomorrow with your name and instrument/voice part so we can put you on the list, if you aren't already.  Even if you're not sure, please let us know, then you can be excused from classes in case you decide to go... which you all should! It's a lot of fun!

Thanks!
