CMENC Introductory Meeting for 2005-2006 - 12 September 2005

1. Ice Breaker
1. We all had a great time playing an apple-related ice breaker. Angela and Brianna were the big winners, and received a shiny red (and bruised!) apple as a prize. Plus, we all got to see Tim do the worm!

2. Intro of Officers
1. Just to recap, here are the officers: Jill Redding: president; Amy Mc Coy: vice president/state rep; Ashley Singer: secretary; Tim Baumann and Courtney Gansmann: co-treasurers; Anne Bitney: advocate

3. 5 Minutes of Advocacy
1. Anne told us about the opportunities for profession growth CMENC offers (speakers, conference, developing new teaching methods, interacting with fellow music majors). She also told us about what a good chance CMENC can give you to figure out if music education is right for you.

4. Schedule for Semester
1. There were a lot of important dates to remember, and they’re all listed on the sheet of paper on the CMENC board, but here are some highlights:

i. Officers meet opposite regular meetings—they’re a good chance to stop in and bring something up to the officers if you need/want to

ii. Friday Sept 23: application due

iii. Monday Sept 26: next general meeting

iv. Wednesday Oct 5: Conference registration due in CMENC mailbox

v. Saturday Oct 26-29: WMEA Conference

vi. Sunday Dec 4: Tree Hunt

vii. Friday Dec 9: Lobby Concert

5. Points and Attendance
1. Points are reset at the beginning of each semester
2. 1 point per meeting or hour spent working (with a few exceptions) so make sure you sign in!
3. 12 points required to be able to attend the conference for free
4. If you want to know where you are with points, send Ashley an email (singerad@uwec.edu), and you’ll get a response.
5. If you think you deserve more points than you have, let Ashley know, and she’ll recalculate.
6. These people made the required amount of points to attend conference for free: Kristin Bar, Tim Baumann, Jacob Boyle, Aurora Conde, Amy McCoy, Jill Redding, Ashley Singer, Kira Zeman

6. Applications/Dues
1. Extra applications are on the CMENC board
2. Due date for applications is Sept 23 in CMENC mailbox. Checks should be made out for $28 to UWEC.
3. Our college chapter number is 409

7. Conference
1. October 26-29
2. Benefits: tons of free stuff, learn a lot, good for networking
3. You are field-tripped from your classes
4. Booklets handed out have the schedule

*****This was not mentioned in the meeting, but we need 2 Music Majors and 2 Theater Arts majors to join a committee to discuss hours of access to the Fine Arts building. Please, only upper classmen for this job! If you’re interested, contact Dr. Knight.*****
