Every year in March our chapter celebrates Music in Our Schools Month (MIOSM) by visiting an area school and sharing our love for music. Students from our University perform in small ensembles and give master classes about the specific instruments and general aspects of music. In the past we have had ensembles representing brass, woodwinds, percussion, strings, voice, and jazz. In addition to these master classes and performances we have also included talks on topics such as music technology and careers in music. This year, our chapter visited Eleva-Strum Middle and High School and Strum Elementary! The vocalists sang "Danny Boy" and "Down By the Riverside" and the instrumentalists demonstrated their instruments. In addition to that, some of our students studying voice sang solos for the middle school and high school students. Our theme this year was "The National Anthem." In the Elementary school, we used pictures to teach the students the words to the Star-Spangled Banner. In the high school, we performed a funny skit about the history of the Star-Spangled Banner! This outing is always an excellent opportunity for our members and for the students we visit! |
