The Materials Science Center of UW-Eau Claire can

  • Visualize microscopic defects in materials such as steels and electronic components

  • Determine the elemental composition of materials for acceptance or failure analysis

  • Compare materials to known product specifications or industry standards

  • Evaluate different cost basis materials

The Materials Science Center is well-equipped in the fields of microscopy and elemental analysis. Using a variety of instrumentation, elemental composition from the percent (%) to the parts per trillion (ppt) range can be determined for a variety of materials including glass, water, steel, rock, body fluids, metals, polymers, and other biological, environmental, geological, chemical, and industrial samples.  Our goal is to solve problems that arise in research and development, manufacturing, new product development, quality control, regulatory affairs, and anywhere surface characterization or elemental analysis is needed.
