The Materials Science Center of UW-Eau Claire can
Visualize microscopic defects in materials such as steels and electronic components
Determine the elemental composition of materials for acceptance or failure analysis
Compare materials to known product specifications or industry standards
Evaluate different cost basis materials
The Materials Science Center is well-equipped in the fields of microscopy and elemental analysis. Using a variety of instrumentation, elemental composition from the percent (%) to the parts per trillion (ppt) range can be determined for a variety of materials including
glass, water, steel, rock, body fluids, metals, polymers, and other biological, environmental, geological, chemical, and industrial samples. Our goal is to solve problems that arise in research and development, manufacturing, new product development, quality control, regulatory affairs, and anywhere surface characterization or elemental analysis is needed.
Faculty and staff are available to conduct laboratory testing. We also provide instrument time, hands on training, and other consulting to our clients upon request. If you would like a tour or wish to discuss your particular analytical needs, please e-mail matsci@uwec.edu.
See our Materials Science Center brochure (PDF format), for more information about industries, applications, and research facilities. For a detailed listing of instrumentation, please see the Instrumentation page.
