Selection Procedure

The following criteria shall be used in numerical order, as needed, to select the recipient of the scholarship, with the student having the highest record under the given criterion to be selected as the recipient.

If one student has the highest record under the first criterion, then that student shall be the recipient of the scholarship. If two or more students are tied on the basis of the first criterion, then the second criterion shall be used to select the recipient from among those tied on the first criterion. If two or more students are tied on both the first and second criteria, then the third criterion shall be used to select the recipient from among those tied on the first two criteria. Similarly, if two or more students are tied on the first three criteria, the fourth criterion shall be used to select the recipient from among those tied on the first three criteria.

Criterion 1. The grade point average (rounded to two decimal places) in Math 114, 185, 215, 216, 226, 285 (or their equivalent) and all mathematics courses numbered above 310 in which credit has been earned or awarded. (Students who were awarded advanced placement without credit or with a mark of "S" in the calculus sequence shall be considered to have earned the same grade in the calculus course or courses skipped as they earned in the first calculus course they took for credit.)

Criterion 2. The resident grade point average as reported by the Registrar on all courses in which credit has been earned or awarded.

Criterion 3. The grade point average in mathematics courses numbered above 310.

Criterion 4. The number of votes cast by secret ballot at a meeting of the Mathematics Department at UW-Eau Claire.

SPECIAL NOTES

It is intended that this award be added to all other scholarships and grants. The recipient may receive the award in any semester or summer session for a period of two years following selection.

This scholarship will be awarded to one student annually until such time as the principal permits two or more awards of at least $300.00. The decision to make two or more awards shall be made by the Mathematics Department of UW-Eau Claire in consultation with the Director of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation. If more than one award is made in a given year, the selection of the second and subsequent recipients shall be made using the same criteria, after eliminating from consideration those already selected for the award that year.

The recipient should send a note of thanks to Dr. Marshall E. Wick in care of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Office.
