Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- be of sophomore or first semester junior standing (30-74 semester credits earned) who have either completed or are currently enrolled in Math 216,
- have declared a mathematics major,
- have both a mathematics and overall GPA of at least 3.00, and
- must be a full time student (12 or more credits).
All mathematics majors who apply will be given equal consideration. The scholarship is not based on financial need.
Application Procedure
To be considered for the scholarship, a student must:
- Complete an application form. Forms are available in the Mathematics Department Office (HHH 508) or online
. - Write a brief statement (50-100 words) concerning career objectives.
- Have letters of recommendation from two mathematics faculty members sent directly to the address below. These faculty members need not be from UWEC but at least one has to be a university faculty member. Letters should address such qualities as level of commitment, communication skills, creativity, ingenuity, reliability, enthusiasm for mathematics, and participation in class and other mathematical activities during the last three years. These letters should be sent to: Chair, Awards Committee, Department of Mathematics, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Eau Claire, WI, 54702-4004.

Selection Procedure
Selection will be based on demonstrated performance and potential in mathematics. Each member of the Mathematics Department Awards Committee will use the applicant's gradepoint average, statement of career objectives and letters of recommendation to rank the applicants. The Awards Committee will then, without discussing the ‘applicants, arrive at a ranking using the rankings of the individual members. The applicant with highest ranking will receive the award. Ties will be broken using the same procedure on only those applicants that are tied.

The recipient of the scholarship will receive official notification and be honored at the University Awards Banquet.
