Multimedia Use and Resources

As of February 2nd, the seventh day of the new semester, the multimedia projects storage drive already had five class folders. Inside of these, a total of 171 students have their own folders. This number is anticipated to exceed 460 as the semester continues. The rise in multimedia assignments each semester is significant because multimedia projects, which include audio, video, and still images, require not only support but also a large amount of storage space. Attempting to meet these ever increasing needs prompted some changes to help make assigning and preparing class multimedia projects easier. Here is a brief summary of the resources now available for multimedia projects:

  • Automated folder creation--faculty can contact the LTS HelpDesk to request a class folder on the project drive. Student folders within the class folder will be created automatically.
  • Classroom presentations--these are designed and offered by BITS to explain the process involved in making a successful project. The presentations cover equipment checkout, project storyboarding, computer hardware and storage possibilities.

It is recommended that faculty and staff planning a multimedia segment for their class:

  • Contact training@uwec.edu
  • Relay training information to the class so that students can produce their best work
  • Contact CETL for information comparing multimedia and conventional paper assignments and for support with planning multimedia assignments

Further support can be sought from the Video Editing staff located in the basement offices of Schofield. There, under Don Schleicher's leadership, the staff creates video projects for campus events on request. Don is a great video resource for staff and faculty, and often he guides student multimedia projects.
