Classroom Technology Strategic Planning Task Force Requests Your Input

Dr. Michael Wick, Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, has formed a Classroom Technology Strategic Planning Task Force charged with identifying standards and needs for UW-Eau Claire classrooms. It will also write an equipment rotation plan that makes the best possible use of the classroom equipment budget. Individuals from different departments across campus comprise the task force which is co-chaired by Dawna Drum (COB) and Geoff Peterson (Political Science). Members are currently in an information gathering stage and hope to have recommendations finalized before the end of the fiscal year. As part of data gathering, a survey concerning classroom technology is being sent to all faculty and instructional academic staff this week. Responding to the survey is critical because it will help the task force write its report and recommend a priority list of classroom projects.

It is no secret that UW-Eau Claire’s budgetary situation is less than ideal. The budget for supporting technology in the classroom is especially challenged in two ways. One, it is inadequate for keeping the technologies already in the classrooms current. Two, it lacks funds to upgrade the classrooms still lacking technology. In fact, current budgets simply cannot continue to support classrooms that are fully equipped (over 90%) with video/data projectors, document cameras, computers, control systems, sound systems and other technologies.

The survey results will help the task force recommend the best use of UW-Eau Claire's classroom technology budget. Your survey answers will let the task force know what technology is being used most often, and when and where it is being used. Please let your practices and needs be known by responding to the survey.
