LTS Poster Printing Policies

poster printingUW-Eau Claire staff and students who use the LTS poster printing service appreciate the professional look of posters printed on the wide format printer. The policies for what can be printed and by whom are dictated by the funding sources. Years ago, ORSP agreed to a base budget funds transfer to support faculty and staff who need materials, such as posters, for conference and meeting presentations. The Deans of the Colleges also contribute funds for this purpose. The second funding source, Differential Tuition, covers the costs of the faculty-student collaborative research posters used for Research Day in the spring. It also covers the occasional poster needed by a capstone student for a conference presentation. Finally, it covers the cost of the posters used for the Human Diversity Expo sponsored by the College of Education and Human Services. In addition to these funding sources, LTS funds the support staff, equipment maintenance, and any budget overruns.

The cost of printing one full-sized poster runs around $70. When poster requests come in for in-class activities only, it quickly becomes cost prohibitive to print one for each student or for multiple groups of students in larger classes. LTS suggests the following alternatives to full-size poster printing for in-class presentations. The best alternative is the last one.

  • Print the full-sized posters at Printing Services or at Kinkos (fee-based)
  • Have students create their posters in PowerPoint so they are one-fourth the size of a full-sized poster. Then, print 4-in-1 to keep costs in line.
  • Have students create their posters in PowerPoint and print only the draft copy for the classroom presentation. The draft copy can be posted if students are moving around the room, or it can be placed on the document camera for a more formal presentation.
  • Have students create their posters in PowerPoint and display them from the computer using the classroom projector and screen. This creates good visibility for all students in the room and helps meet the university's sustainability goals. Plus, it provides an excellent opportunity for students to present using technology.

Other items not eligible for printing include:

  • Posters for marketing a service or program.
  • Posters for personal use
  • Posters consisting only of photos
