Additional Area Code Requires 10-Digit Dialing for Local and Expanded Local Calls

After July 17, 2010, a new area code, 534, will be available in the 715 region. It will be assigned only to new numbers, but will require that you dial the area code for all 715 and 534 local and expanded local numbers. You will not need to use a "1" or a "0" when calling local numbers, just the 10 digits will work. Special 3-digit services, such as 911 and 411, will remain unchanged as will the 1+ area code + number for long distance calls.

Preparing for 10-Digit Dialing

• Check your web sites, stationary, flyers, brochures and other materials to make sure the area code is included with your phone number.
• Update your speed dial settings, call forwarding, voice mail, etc. to include your area code.
• Check your fax machine and other equipment with automatic dialing.
