IP Phone Deployment: Project Update

LTS is beginning the fourth year of a 5-year deployment plan for IP Phones. The infrastructure is now in place in all buildings in preparation for full deployment. During Fall 2009, LTS will finish installing IP Phones in the following locations:

  • Brewer Hall
  • Haas Fine Arts Center
  • the Human Sciences and Services building
  • the Nursing building
  • Phillips Science Hall
  • Schofield Hall

Installation in Hibbard Humanities Hall will be completed during Spring 2010.

The next version of Microsoft Exchange, the software that provides unified communications including voice mail, will support individual call handlers (i.e., press or say 1 for “X”, press or say 2 for “Y”). The updated version will also provide Voice-to-Text translation. This means that a voice mail message accessed through email will contain both the attached recording and the translated text. This allows for the convenience of reading a voice mail message while in a meeting. The update to Microsoft Exchange will take place in the spring.

To learn more about the current capabilities of Microsoft Exchange and how to use them, visit Microsoft Exchange Voice Mail help pages. For assistance with any of these features, please contact the Help Desk (836-5711).
