New Online Survey Tool – Qualtrics

The campus has a new online survey tool, called Qualtrics. This is a 3rd-party hosted service, meaning that the surveys and resulting data are stored on servers outside of the University. Qualtrics allows for functionality that was simply not possible with WebSurvey, including:

  • Many more question types, as well as sample question previews for each question type available.
  • A built-in HTML editor that allows you to change fonts and formatting by using a toolbar rather than having to know HTML code.
  • Spell check.
  • Personal libraries that can store frequently used questions, images, and surveys.
  • A  graphical survey flow editor to help you add branch and skip logic.
  • Question blocks that allow for advanced survey flow, looping, and randomization within the blocks.
  • A variety of survey analysis tools and results reporting formats.
  • An export format for results that is readily compatible with SPSS.

This survey tool is currently available for use by all students, faculty, and staff. Simply go to www.uweauclaire.qualtrics.com. You will be asked to login with your campus username and password. BITS will be presenting Technolunches and hands-on workshops for Qualtrics. Visit the BITS website for workshop information and to register for a workshop.

Making the Transition from WebSurvey to Qualtrics

There are many current users of the WebSurvey system. LTS wants to make the transition as easy as possible. We will be contacting survey owners multiple times before each of the following dates to answer questions and to assist where we can in archiving existing surveys and data or transitioning on-going surveys to Qualtrics. Information directing you to Qualtrics and advising you of the following timeframe is now being included on the WebSurvey login screen.
Login screen notice

The ability to create new surveys in WebSurvey will be disabled as of June 1, 2009. Existing surveys in the system at this point will still be able to accept responses. Survey owners will still be able to access their data at this point.

The ability to access existing surveys and survey data will be disabled as of October 1, 2009. Current survey owners will want to take steps to archive survey instruments and data that they need by this date.

If you have questions about Qualtrics or your existing surveys in WebSurvey, please contact the LTS Help Desk.
