One of the major achievements made by Web Development Services over the summer was the conversion of several websites to CommonSpot, a web content management system (wcms). On July 29, the University homepages, Chancellor’s and Strategic Planning websites were unveiled with a new design, but more importantly, with a database-driven approach to developing sites. BITS and Student Affairs sites soon followed. Several others have been selected as pilot sites and will soon be converted.
Web publishers who are participating in the pilot have attended basics and intermediate training sessions that were developed over the summer. There is a list of sites being maintained for those who wish to be next in line for conversion and training. If you are interested in being on that list, send an email message to Lillian Hillis.
Another project underway as a joint effort between by Web Development Services and University Centers is the development of a new web Calendar of Events system. Master Calendar is a web calendar application that will tie in with other campus calendar applications and bring all events together under one web display. We expect to begin to pilot this system later in the Fall semester.
