The staff of BITS (Building Information Technology Skills) had a busy summer, which included many opportunities to share their expertise with newcomers to campus. Here are just a few of the events BITS participated in:
Two members of the BITS staff worked with Odawa White in the Office of Multicultural Affairs to host a workshop called, “Digital Cameras 101.” This workshop was for 25 participants in the “Strengthening Our Nations” camp.
BITS and Help Desk staff were some of the LTS folks who played a key role in CETL’s New Educator orientation, producing a commercial and giving a presentation on LTS services.
BITS staff also delivered customized, interactive Excel 2007 training for the Registrar’s Office, due to changes brought about by the PeopleSoft conversion.
Both BITS and the LTS Help Desk staffed display tables and answered questions at Freshman orientation during the month of June. BITS also staffed a display table during part of Phase II orientation, the Student Services Fair at the end of August.
Summer also seems to be a time when more faculty and staff can take the time to attend workshops. BITS presented 54 workshops during the summer months to over 300 registrants. Topics included Microsoft Office 2007 applications, PDF Forms, WebSurvey, and a series on using digital cameras.
In addition, to scheduled workshops, BITS presented 13 by-request workshops for faculty and departments, totaling almost 20 hours of instruction on topics like Intro to UWEC Computing, Digital Photography, Excel, WebSurveys, and Video Editing.
As you can see, Building Information Technology Skills (BITS) provides one-on-one training and custom technology workshops for curriculum support, as well as for campus-wide upgrades (e.g., Office 2007), outreach activities (e.g., Pre-college camps), departmental professional development, student-faculty collaborative research (e.g., Student Research Day), and non-curricular project consultations (e.g., Excel data analysis).
