Campus Users with New Computers

If it’s been around 3-4 years since you have had your computer, you may be looking forward to a new machine. While we hope the transition to new programs and updated software will happen smoothly, there are a number of steps both LTS and you can take to eliminate challenges and make the changeover less painful and more efficient.

LTS will initiate the process when we are informed that your new computer is ready to be deployed. We will first notify you that your new PC has been received and we need to begin backing up files from your old computer.  At this point we will ask you if you have any personal items, music, letters, or pictures, on your computer that you would like to save.  Although all work-related material should be saved on a network drive, you may occasionally store files on the computer’s hard drive. LTS will try to save this information as well.

To streamline this process, it is best to provide a list of any specialized software or programs that you or your department uses.  Many areas use special programs specific to their needs and often these must be installed separately. LTS or your supervisor can help determine which programs may be specific to your position or department.

We hope these guidelines and continued communication will make this process less stressful and more exciting.
