The newly redesigned UW-Eau Claire Web site will be released the week of July 28. The new design features a lighter, wider look, new images and some small navigational changes. The navigational changes were made after doing studies that showed which links were used most often. Those most frequently used were moved to the upper right corner of the home page top banner where they are easier to find.
But more than just a pretty new face, the site has new underpinnings. These pages were created using CommonSpot, our new Web content management system. This product provides many advantages over using Dreamweaver to develop sites. A Q&A was developed to answer many questions about the transition to the content management system.
Another advantage of this move is that the URL for top-level pages will no longer contain the /home/ segment, making for shorter page names in the browser address bar. For those who have links to any top-level pages using the old convention, they will redirected so they continue to work for as long as is needed to allow changes to be made.
Several pilot sites will be converted and brought live during the rest of the summer. Our goal is to complete the conversion within two years. Web Development Services and the LTS Training Staff will work with you to convert your site and make sure you are comfortable maintaining your site with CommonSpot. If you wish to have your site placed on a conversion waiting list, send an email message to web@uwec.edu.
