Library Services for Community Users

Walk-in

Anyone is welcome to come into McIntyre Library and use its resources.

Online catalog

You may search the McIntyre Library online catalog from wherever you have Web access, either on campus or off campus. If McIntyre Library has material that you would like to use, but you are unable to come into the library, you may be able to borrow the item through the Interlibrary Loan service at your local library. Please check with your library about the availability of this service.

Borrowing materials

Wisconsin residents may obtain an off-campus user card at the Main Circulation Desk upon payment of a $10 fee and presentation of a form of picture ID. See Loan Periods. The off-campus user cards are nontransferable. Community users may have up to 25 items checked out at a time. Renewals must be made in person at the library's Circulation Desk.

Electronic databases

Anyone is welcome to come into McIntyre Library and use its online databases. Remote access to most UW-Eau Claire electronic databases is restricted to UW-Eau Claire students, faculty and staff due to licensing agreements. You may have access to some of these databases through your public library. If you are a Wisconsin citizen, some of these databases are available to you through BadgerLink, a statewide initiative providing access to thousands of magazine, journal and newspaper articles, government documents and other resources.

Students attending other schools

Students attending other UW System schools may borrow materials from McIntyre Library upon presentation of the current ID issued by the school they are attending. Universal borrowing due dates and borrowing eligibility guidelines apply.

If you are a student enrolled at an institution other than UW-Eau Claire, you are encouraged to contact your institution's library first to find out what services and resources are available to you. Because it is McIntyre Library's mission to select and build collections supporting the curriculum and research interests at UW-Eau Claire, we may not necessarily provide access to the kinds of materials you need for courses taken from other institutions.

High School Group Visits to McIntyre Library

McIntyre Library welcomes visits from high school groups. The following is information to ensure a more productive visit.

High School Honor Students

High school students who have honor cards issued by their high schools may obtain McIntyre Library off-campus user cards for the current semester. The $10 fee is waived only for those students attending high schools which have set up a borrowing agreement with McIntyre Library. Students may re-register for the off-campus user card each semester as long as their honor cards are valid.

Family Members

Off-campus user cards, as well as Blugold cards, are nontransferable. They cannot be used by spouses, children, friends, etc., unless the person to whom the card was issued is present.
