The links below lead you to websites of academic interest in the following disciplines. Some have been gleaned from UW-Eau Claire faculty recommendations, others from reviews in the collection development literature. These are non-commercial sites.

Art:

  • Art & architecture thesaurus online, Reviewed in 2003dec CHOICE. Contains more than 125,000 terms covering "fine art, architecture, decorative arts, archival materials, and material culture." The site includes brief definitions (the searchable "notes" field) and an impressive, easily navigable hierarchical tree.
  • Art Institute of Chicago: On-line links to the Museum, featuring exhibition information and views of the collection, also includes information for the School.
  • Art on the Web: Index of electronic resources, established as part of the Fine Arts Department at Boston College.
  • Art Reference Online: Index of electronic reference tools, developed by Western Washington University.
  • Getty Institute: Homepage of the Institute, with links to the Collections, including photos. Also includes information about the Institute, Exhibitions and a visitors guide.
  • Guggenheim Museum: An online tour of the Museum in New York and presentations of collections in Bilbao, Venice, Berlin and Las Vegas.
  • The Internet Public Library Reference Center: select Arts and Humanities and search: A subject link to Fine Arts, which is further sub-divided into specific areas of art linking to electronic resources.
  • The Louvre Museum: The Museum homepage includes a site map, virtual tour, collections descriptions, publications, databases and information.
  • The Metropolitan Museum of Art: The Museum homepage includes descriptions and views of the Collections, a virtual reality tour, exhibition and educational resources information.
  • National Gallery of Art (Washington, D.C.): Gallery homepage which permits searching the Collection and a short select tour.
  • The National Museum of American Illustration Pictures and information about the history of American illustration.
  • Scout Report: Use the Search Archives box for electronic resources on specialty areas of art.
  • Structurae This Web site showcases the works and art of structural engineering and, to some extent, architecture from around the world.
  • Webster University Art Links: Eden-Webster Library, St. Louis, Missouri, requires proper id to access the art links to electronic resources.
