Reference Collection

The Library has a number of collections of "Reference" materials, which contain many standard types of works such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories, atlases, bibliographies, etc.

The main reference collection is on the 1st floor of McIntyre Library. It contains more than 20,000 volumes, covering all subject areas supporting UW-Eau Claire’s programs. You can find reference materials for your discipline through the “Subject” resources links in the left navigation bar. Generally speaking, these are for library use only and may not be checked out.

The Reference Collections also include many online sources: article databases, encyclopedias, dictionaries, etc. Subject specific databases can be accessed through SearchSpot’s Custom Search feature. Other online sources include both resources provided by McIntyre Library and freely available sources which have been vetted by library staff for value. To access these, go to the Online Reference Shelf.

Staff are on duty to provide all library users with assistance in finding and using information sources. For more information, see the Research Assistance page.
