Journal Articles

You have access to McIntyre Library's extensive journal collection, including journals that are available online as well as in paper.

Databases or indexes are the tools for finding journal articles. McIntyre Library subscribes to more than 100 databases that provide citations and/or online full text for millions of journal articles. You will need your UW-Eau Claire username and password (PIN) to get into these databases.

  1. Select a database in which to search:

  2. Determine if your journal article is available in the library:
  3. Sometimes the journal article you need is available somewhere else in the library's collection. Click the FIND IT button to determine if and where the library has the article.

    • If the article is available in online, follow the links from the FIND IT window to get to the fulltext article.
    • If the article is available only in print, you can request a copy to be emailed to you. Read on...

  4. Order a scanned copy of a journal article:
    • For students abroad, McIntyre Library will scan and email articles from our collection.
    • To order an article, you must first register (just once per semester) for the service. (When asked for DE Course or Program, enter "Study Abroad").
    • Find your "private i.d.", an 8-digit number you will need to place your order. This number, unique from any other campus i.d., is used to protect the privacy of your library account.
    • After you have registered , proceed to place your order. On the order form, use the "Request a Photocopy" option. When asked if you qualify for distance education service, respond "yes."

Books

While we cannot mail books to you overseas, you do have access to access to thousands of electronic books (e-books) through a service called netLibrary.

To search for an e-book:

  • Do a keyword (default) or title search in the McIntyre Library catalog and use the Basic Limit drop-down menu to select netLibrary. OR
  • To browse a list of all e-books, do a keyword search on the word netLibrary.
  • From the list of results, click on the desired title to bring up information about the e-book.
  • To view the e-book, click on the Linked Resources link. This will open a netLibrary screen.
  • You have to set up a free netLibrary account to get the full benefit of the service. To do this, follow instructions on the screen.
  • NetLibrary only allows one person to view a book at a time. If you get a message that the book is currently being used by someone else, you can request to be notified when it is available.
