The map above shows where Waipio Valley is located on the island of Hawaii. The valley walls are about 2,000 feet high. Waipio Valley is located on the windward side of the island, which gives the valley a high mean annual precipitation and a humid tropical climate.

The map above shows the features seen in Waipio Valley. The line segments represent the hike made by the Eau Claire Field Studies class through Waipio Valley. Taro Fields occupy the majority of land in the valley, and there is a fresh water river running along the right side of the valley that provides irrigation. In the distance you can see Hi'ilawe Falls, the tallest waterfall in the state.
