The Waipio overlook was the last resting stop before
the hike into Waipio Valley. By the time we got there, the
clouds had cleared and the temperature was rising. Waipio
Valley is the first of seven valley's along the Kohala coast.
Waipio Valley was formed from runoff processes, ground water
sapping, and mass wasting. Waipio Valley is characterized as a
groundwater sapping valley evidenced by its U-shaped valley profile,
its amphitheater-like head, sharp floor to slope junctions, hanging
valleys, and extremely steep valley walls.
