VOLCANIC HAZARDS OF YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK

ERICKSON, Kelly M., Geography-International Studies Major, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. 508 West Grand Ave, Eau Claire, WI 54703, erickskm@uwec.edu

Yellowstone National Park was created in 1872 and is the oldest and most visited parks of the United States in the National Park System and it is part of the world’s largest active volcanic systems. This park has many geothermic, volcanic and tectonic forces working underneath it and looking at evidence of past activity at Yellowstone National Park, these forces have been known to be highly cataclysmic. By examining past events, researching current formations, and observing the continuing events at Yellowstone scientists are able to scrutinize the potential environmental hazards here. A quick look into the how Yellowstone National Park was created gives us an idea of what occurrences we may be able to expect in the future and with this information we will be better prepared.
