These are the effects of a single storm event. Decades of build up can be eroded in a single storm. These grass's roots help prevent erosion. However, in this case, the roots were unable to prevent the extensive deflation of this sand dune.

Efforts to repair blown out sand dunes take many years. Winds carry the sand up the beach. The winds slow as it hits the fence, depositing the sand naturally forming a rebuilt dune. Grasses have been planted to limit erosion.
