Canal Park is located in Duluth, MN and is considered to be one of the main attractions around Lake Superior.  One of the large highlights in Canal Park is the Aerial Lift Bridge; this bridge connects Lake Superior to the Duluth Superior Harbor.  There are many more reasons why Canal Park is one of the main attractions for example it includes many types of shops and restaurants.  This is an area that is known for the lake side walking paths and the aesthetic views of Lake Superior.  As our class was on our lunch break we decided to experience the different types of restaurants such as Subway and Old Chicago, also after the long day of experiencing Duluth’s geomorphic features we decided to enjoy a good meal and cold beer at Fitgers Brewery.  This is a nice area to spend a summer day on vacation.

One feature that was also a highlight for Canal Park is that it has an amazing roche moutonnee, with striations going in two different directions which tell us that two separate glaciers have passed in this area.  A main issue that occurs on Canal Park is the potential of flooding, the park is not elevated enough for the park to be safe from the waves and flooding that might occur in a large storm.  Storms all along Lake Superior will in some way affect the landscape and development of the coast.  Canal Park is always thinking of ways to prevent the damage from these storms, this is where one with a geomorphic background could help the city to prevent these problems.  The city of Duluth is putting forth much effort to keeping this area a wonderful place to visit.
