Beginning October 2007, I have been employed by the Antarctic Geospatial Information Center (AGIC). AGIC was created to address the need to create, collect, distribute and archive Antarctic geospatial information to serve the needs of the operations, research and education communities.
The work that I do involves creating maps from known data sources or to add data to existing sources. My duties have included plotting gps data on a map in order to place landing sites as well as roads on maps. These maps will be used to help keep McMurdo as well as the South Pole stations going. The maps right now are only the operations maps. As time goes on and word about AGIC contines to spread there will be an increasing number of other types of maps that will be requested.
