| The 97-JOCK-1R1 profile below shows two exposures of the older buried soil with two sections of the younger buried soil between them. The geometry of these reflections would suggest the opposite age relationship, but the distinct development characteristics of each soil, combined with radiocarbon dates (see Jockeys Ridge Dating Strategy link) have confirmed this interpretation. |

| The profile below, 98-JORI-1R3, shows an area of overlap with 97-JOCK-1R1, and reveals the older buried soil reflection dipping deeper into the dune from its point of exposure at approximately 36 meters. |

| The two buried soils are exposed in outcrop on the 98-JORI-1R1 traverse
(profile shown below). This profile shows that the younger soil has been eroded away
and the older soil is exposed or near the surface for much of this profile. The two paleosols identified at Jockeys Ridge are shown in the photo to the right. The area in this photo is located on 98-JORI-1R1 at position 28-45 meters. |

| The profile below is oriented perpendicular to the resultant southerly migration direction. However, the reflections show two southerly-migrating superimposed dunes overlying a package that migrated westward. |
