Jockeys Ridge GPR Traverse Strategy
|
| The aerial photograph above of Jockeys Ridge is overlain with locations of soil exposures (red lines) and GPR sample traverses (green and blue lines). GPR sample locations were chosen near soil exposures so dune sediment above and below the soil could be sampled for dating. A strike and dip GPR line orientation was used to observe stratigraphic orientations parallel and perpendicular to the overall dune migration direction. The green lines represent traverses where GPR data that were collected in January 1997; data were collected along the traverses shown in blue in the subsequent summers primarily to delineate internal stragiraphy in the northern part of the dune where two paleosols are preserved. |
