This past summer, myself, along with four other undergraduate students were fortunate enough to actively take part in the Southwest Washington Coastal Erosion Study(SWCE) (Study Area). The study is jointly directed by the USGS Marine and Coastal Geology Program and the Department of Ecology, Shorelands and Environmental Assistance Program. This cooperative research program began four years ago to study the coastal geology, processes, and natural hazards of the southwest Washington coast. A large GIS database has been generated during these years which is providing researchers with a clearer picture of the processes that are constantly shaping this dynamic shoreline.
