A Journey of Hawaii's

Big Island East Side

Throughout the day of September 27, 2001, Hawaii 491 students and professor Dr. Harry Jol traveled the east side of the Big Island inspecting the physical landscape. Remarkably diverse environments are the product of the east side's heavy precipitation, brought in by the northwest trade winds.

The trip guide to the left (figure 1) will lead you through our journey, showing highlights of the trip, and revealing nature at work in processes of aging and creation.  Simply click on the number place names to view.  ENJOY
