SITE SUITABILITY ASSESSMENT FOR ST. VINCENT ISLAND

St. Vincent Island lies on the northernmost end of The Grenadines. The island has a diverse landscape stretching from mountainous regions to the ocean. This volcanic island homes La Soufrie, an active volcano stretching 1200m in the northern third of the island. The lowland areas of St. Vincent is cultivated with bananas, coconuts and arrowroot. Due to the variety of landscape on the island, tourists are inclined to visit this area. The northeastern side of St. Vincent Island (noted in map) contains raging rivers, existing trails and roadways, and a diverse landscape, making it ideal for tourism.

 

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE

The study site was manipulated using the Geographic Information System IDRISI to develop a visitor's center, scenic overlooks, and an interconnecting trail system for tourist attraction.
