Panum Crater

Our third stop of the day was just north of Mono Lake at the Panum Crater.  The Panum Crater is 630 years old and was formed when magma reaching the water of Mono Lake exploded.  Both obsidian and pumice rocks are found in the Panum Crater.  This crater is one of 21 volcanic cones in the Mono Lake area.
