Laser Leveling on Hapuna Beach

 

 

What is Laser Leveling?

Laser leveling is a method to collect topographic data quickly and effeciently.Laser leveling is a method to collect topographic data quickly and efficiently. There are two pieces of equipment used to collect data. First is a tripod on which sits a transmitter that spins and sends out a laser beam 360°(seen below). Second there is the receiver which is mounted on a survey rod. When the receiver is at the same height as the tripod, it beeps and the surveyor records the height.

Laser Leveling on Hapuna

Laser leveling was used on Hapuna to record beach profiles along the lenth of the beach and to collect topographic data for the GPR profiles.
