Highway 130

A 7-8 mile portion of Highway 130 is deemed unusable due to volcanic eruptions occuring less than a decade before the present. Eruptions from Kilauea covered the landscape while the lava made its way to the sea. Out of nowhere the road ends. In recent years people have built a gravel road alonside the actual road, however, that road only goes so far into the lava flow (not all the way to the other side of Highway 130).

This lava flow covered not only the highway but also the surrounding area in which whole neighborhoods were swallowed up.Several great views come from this point are available. You can see Kilauea, the ocean, and miles of lava flow.
