Welcome to an exciting educational website about the human nemesis named Tuberculosis!

The bacteria Tuberculosis has been recognized as a human disease for thousands of years and treatments have changed as science has developed. Within the past hundred years, treatments have become more medically based and effective as research has progressed.

The introduction of antibiotics in the mid to late 1940’s provided a cure for the disease once thought to be incurable.  However, the overuse of antibiotics by well-intentioned doctors everywhere created new resistant strains of Tuberculosis.

Tuberculosis infects people by transfer of the bacterium through inhaled airborne sputum that then becomes sub-located in the hosts bronchial alveolar spaces.  If the host’s defense mechanisms fail to stop bacterial replication, Tuberculosis will overrun the bronchial tissue eventually causing degeneration of the lungs.

Should an outbreak of Tuberculosis occur, local civil defense agencies need to have a plan in place to handle the crisis.  Preparation needs to take place in order to have areas set up to handle those infected with Tuberculosis and to further prevent the spread.
