Causes of the landslide in Guinsaugon

     - Slash and burn techniques used to clear the land for agricultural use

     - Deforestation of the jungle in Leyte due to illegal logging.

     - Located  in low latitude and the typhoon belt, the Philippines gets a lot of rain each year.

     - 674mm of rainfall was recorded from Feb. 8 to Feb. 17 2006

Illegal logging is a big problem in the Philippines. Deforestation causes the slope to lose support and increase runoff. Resisting force exceeds driving mass force leads to inequilibrium of the slope and the landslide
