PINATUBO'S CONTRIBUTIONS |
•
• Warmer air temperatures over Northern Hemisphere by up to 3°C in the winters of 1991–92 • Cooling of ≈-0.5°C in the northern high-latitude growing seasons of 1992–1993 • Global average CO2 concentration rose by 25 parts per million
•
• Annual mean temperature in the boreal zone increased by 0.8°C
• Annual precipitation in the boreal zone increased by 9.7 mm • Global warming was slowed after the Pinatubo eruption because of the cooling effects of the volcanic aerosols • Produced an increased carbon sink that contributed to the slowdown in the global rate of atmospheric CO2 concentration growth
