The future for Rib Lake is optimistic, but still uncertain.
There is no doubt that the determination and hard work by many in the
community will continue to fuel this project. While continually
receiving more information about the lake and the logs buried below, the
community is still looking for 'the big break' or enough evidence to
receive the DNR's approval to harvest the logs. Work is still
being conducted by Dr. Harry Jol and the students from UWEC with the
data and sediment that were collected during their field work at Rib
Lake. This will certainly help the community move closer to its
goal.
Continued efforts by community members, volunteers, UWEC, and others
is needed. The Community Development Foundation will gladly accept
any assistance that might be offered by interested persons. One
goal of this student produced website was to inform more people of the
project at Rib Lake in aspiration that we can help the community of Rib
Lake achieve its goal of improving the water quality and recovering
timeless timber to benefit the local economy and open a door to lost
history of Wisconsin's logging. |
