.: Analysis
In this room the New Richmond Sandstone formation is prevalent. It is called the “Ghosts and Goblins Room” because within the sandstone the erosion looks like faces. The New Richmond formation was deposited when the ocean was shallow. The Oneida formation was very large, and then the sea level dropped, much of the formation was eroded away, water levels rose and the New Richmond formation was deposited. This formation was deposited in a shallow water environment, which you can tell because of the desiccation/mud cracks. The ceiling of this room is the bottom of the Shakopee formation. |
