Cave Inhabitants

There are several different varieties of bats that live/hibernate in the cave. The bats generally come into the cave during October and November, and leave during April and May. Many of the bats have a life span of about 20-25 years. One bat can eat approximately 3,000 insects in once night during the summer months. There three main species of bats that can be found in Crystal Cave. The Little Brown Bats are a small tan colored bat. An Eastern Pipistrelle is a small orange colored bat. There are also Northern Myotis bats in the cave that are very similar to the little brown bats.
