Introduction

   On November 7, 2005 our Geomorphology class traveled to Crystal  Cave. Located in Spring Valley, Wisconsin, about 45 minutes away from the UWEC campus, Crystal Cave is the longest cave in the state.   This day is partly to mostly sunny with a temperature about 9° (48 °F).


The purpose of this field trip is to observe the geomorphic processes taking place throughout the different cave levels. We must also be aware of a few field hazards. There are low ceilings, a slippery muddy cave floor, and bats that must be left alone.
 

 




Definition of a Cave:

1) Big enough for a person to get into

2) Has to be naturally formed

3) Goes back far enough to be in total darkness from the entrance
